Charlie Zeleny is no exception to this rule. Known as a drumming virtuoso, Zeleny has been hitting the skins since the young age of eight while in elementary school. In college, he was the founder and head of Drew University’s jazz music department and studied under under Tommy Igoe, Nick Scheuble and Joe Bergamini prior to his acceptance into New York University. While Zeleny did not attend NYU, he did begin a remarkable career in music that has brought him into the spotlight throughout the country.
Zeleny’s “Drumageddon” may be his greatest achievement to date. Named the “Ultimate Drum Solo,” Zeleney was filmed drumming through an entire building in New York City on various drum sets, achieving an eight minute feature of drumming magnitude in only one take. Zeleny has also played with artists and groups like Dream Theater, Blue Oyster Cult, Bon Jovi, Akon, and Outasight. Currently, Charlie Zeleny is the bandleader and music director for Cracked Latin, a New York City based band that features many of the top Latin artists today.
When drumming takes on a life of its own, it’s the drummer that makes it happen. As a veritable force in the music industry, Charlie Zeleny is a large part of the resurgence of interest in drummers and drumming, and has nothing but an incredible career, ready to rock the world, in his future.
