Drumming is more than just keeping a rhythm or belting out hot solos and fills without rhyme or reason; it is a complex study that requires patience, dedication, timing, talent and a love for music. Speed, pitch, style and consistency are all markers of great drummers and percussionists, and each drummer had to learn the basics in order to provide the best drumming experience possible. Drummers can be seen in bands, on the street, on stage and on the field, but no matter where a drummer hits the skins, the basics of drumming remain the same.

Combining the flam stroke into a type of single stroke roll, this two handed drum rudiment is a creative way to not only master a more basic rhythm of drumming, but can evolve into an amazing show of talent through various embellishments. It’s a rudiment especially for a marching snare drum that can easily translate into solos, fills and pulsing beats, and is one of the standard rhythms for marching drum percussionists.
The flamacue is the only American-made rudiment taught in schools and studios across the country. This marching drum video from Vic Firth explains the concept and technique for drummers of all ages and styles to learn the flamacue rudiment.

Whether a fan of the paradiddle, pataflafla, double ratamacue or the single stroke roll, the flamacue brings a great sound and style to the marching drum percussionist and the entire marching band.
